EVENT DESCRIPTION

LOCATION: to be confirmed

TIME: 9:00 AM – 10.00 AM

DURATION: 60 MINUTES

HARDWARE PROVIDED: DESKTOP MACHINE

SOFTWARE PROVIDED: MICROSOFT OFFICE ACCESS APPLICATION, MICROSOFT OFFICE VISIO 2003

Maximum Points: 50

Participants will be given a scenario from which they need to come up with database design and implement it. From the scenario, the logical model, relational model and the physical model of the database should be clearly depicted. Participants need to provide the required outcome within the stipulated time.

EVALUATION CRITERIA:

The judges will evaluate the solution based on the following expected outcomes:

  • Database models (logical data model, relational data model and the physical data model).
  • Implementation of the database design on MS Access.
  • Proper use of constraints (primary key and foreign key)

EVENT RULES:

  • Two participants per team.
  • One team per institution only.
  • No reference material is to be used.
  • Data Models may be drawn on paper or using Microsoft Office Visio 2003
  • The database design/ physical data model should be implemented on Microsoft Access.

RULES FOR JUDGES

  • The judges will be given score sheet for each participating team for marks allocation.
  • The judges are expected to individually (No group marking) mark the outcome for each participating team as per the marking criterion.
  • A consolidation mark sheet will be given to judges at the end of marking in which the final mark and position of each participating team will be recorded.
  • The manager and coordinators of the event has the right to peruse the judge's decision to validate and ensure fairness in allocation of marks.

POINTS FOR THE ROLLING TROPHY:

  • The winner will get 50 points.
  • The first runner up will get 35 points.
  • The second runner up will get 15 points.

 

At the end of the day points from all events will be added up together and the institution which has accumulated maximum points will be awarded a rolling trophy. All the event descriptions are approved by the event management committee. The event management committee has the right to make any changes on the given proposal at any time.
