International Computer Driving Licence (ICDL)

What is this about?

The ICDL Standard certificate proves that you can use a computer competently and efficiently as well as your extensive practical skills in using common Office programmes and further important applications. The ECDL Foundation has created new modules and updated the test contents according to the latest developments. The ICDL programme defines the skills and competencies necessary to use a computer and common computer applications. It offers a wide range of modules including Computer Essentials, Word Processing and IT Security. Candidates take tests in the modules which are most relevant to their educational and professional requirements, thereby creating their ICDL Profile. Whether in school, university or in the workplace, ICDL offers the skills you need to succeed.

Why should you enroll?

The ability to use a computer effectively is an essential life skill. Computer skills enable people of all ages to understand and use technology to improve their personal and professional lives. A computer skills certification can help the holder’s professional life by making them more attractive to employers, while increasing their ability to communicate and access information and services in their personal life.

The following are some of the benefits of the ICDL:

  • Raises the level of IT knowledge and competency of all computer users.
  • Improves productivity at work.
  • Reduces IT support costs.
  • Enables employers to invest more efficiently in IT.
  • Improves individual's job prospects and job mobility.

What are the topics covered?

The new ICDL is made up of a range of modules – each module provides a practical programme of up-to-date skills and knowledge areas, which are validated by a test. New ICDL enables you to develop and certify your computer skills in the subject areas of your choice, and to the level that you need – either for work, or for day-to-day life. Through the module combination that you choose, you create your own individual ICDL Profile.

The following modules are some of the modules offered at Botho University:

  • Computer Essentials
  • Word-processing
