Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) Routing and Switching

What is this about?

The role and skills required of a core network engineer are evolving significantly as enterprise networks encounter increased business demands and technology advancements. To meet these challenges, skilled IT professionals are needed with up-to-date, networking skills. For individuals looking to build and validate Cisco networking fundamentals, the Cisco CCNA Routing and Switching program focuses on foundational IP networking skills required to deploy, operate and troubleshoot network layers 1-3. It introduces awareness of programmable networks (SDN), VPN technologies, adoption of IPv6, virtualized and cloud services, along with knowledge of QoS concepts and the ability to ensure critical traffic is being properly prioritized.

Why should you enroll?

If you are an IT professional or network engineer, you might be missing out on a great way to enhance your career profile. The IT job market is getting more crowded every day. One of the best ways to set yourself apart in the crowded IT job market is with a Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) Certification. Big corporations looking for computer network administrators almost require a minimum of a CCNA certification. Cisco networking equipment is used very widely across the world; hence there is a huge requirement of professionals trained on their use and operation. Moreover, the holding of CCNA by a candidate provides the potential employer a reasonable level of assurance that the person in question has a sound knowledge of Cisco networking devices. The Human Resources Development Council (HRDC) has established sector committees and one of the sector committee is the ICT Sector Committee which has identified network administration as one of the skills lacking in Botswana. There are over 4000 unemployed ICT graduates in Botswana and certifications are seen as one mechanism which will give students a shot at employability even beyond Botswana borders.
